Outlined below is general information about the process of obtaining a temporary work visa:  

WORKING HOLIDAYMAKER SCHEME  

  • You must be a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a British Overseas citizen or a British National (Overseas).

  • You must be aged between 17 and 30 years.  
  • You must intend to take an extended holiday in the UK, and intend to take employment as part of the holiday for no more than 12 months during your stay. The visa is valid for up to 2 years.
  • You must not intend to set yourself up in or operate a business or work as a professional sportsperson during your stay.
  • You are single or married to or a civil partner of a person who also qualifies as a working holidaymaker and you intend to take the working holiday together.
  • You do not have any dependent children aged 5 years or over, or who will be 5 years before your holiday ends.
  • You can support yourself and live in the UK without having recourse to public funds.
  • You have not been issued with a previous working holidaymaker visa.
  • You intend to depart from the UK at the end of your holiday.

AU PAIRS

  • An au pair placement involves an arrangement whereby a single person, without dependents, between 17 and 27 years of age travels to reside in the UK with an English-speaking family for up to 2 years to learn English.

  • Youmust not plan to stay in the UK for more than 2 years as an au pair and intend to leave the UK at the end of the au pair placement.
  • You must be able to support yourself as an au pair in the UK without having recourse to public funds.
  • An au pair must be a national of one of the following countries: Andorra, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Macedonia, Monaco, Romania, San Marino or Turkey.

OVERSEAS DOMESTIC WORKERS

  • You are aged between 18 and 65 years.

  • You have worked as a domestic worker in the same house as your employer for at least 1 year immediately prior to your application, or you have worked in a household which your employer uses regularly for themselves for at least 1 year prior to your application and you can prove that there is a connection between you and your employer.
  • You intend to travel to the UK with your employer, your employer's husband, wife or civil partner or your employer's child who is under 18 years.
  • You intend to work in the UK solely as a domestic worker.
  • You can support yourself and live in the UK without having recourse to public funds.
  • A domestic worker provides a personal service linked to the running of the employer's household. Domestic worker includes: chauffeurs, gardeners, cooks and nannies.
