Outlined below is general information about the process of obtaining a student visa:  

STUDENT VISA REQUIREMENTS 

1. Choose a suitable Institution and apply to undertake a registered course or part of a registered course on a full-time basis.

2. If Applicant's enrolment in the selected Institution is accepted, then the applicant receives a Confirmation of Enrolment certificate.

3. Applicant must pay the tuition fees for the course to the Institution.

4. Applicant is required to take out health insurance.

5. Applicant must be a genuine student.

6. Applicant must have adequate finances for travel to and from Australia, tuition and living expenses.

7. Applicant's English language ability must be sufficient for the purposes of the course. Otherwise, the Applicant may be required to complete English training and sit a test before visa is granted).

8. Lodge the Student visa application, evidence of course enrolment and pay the visa application fee.

STUDENT VISA CONDITIONS  

Mandatory Conditions - These conditions are attached to all student visas. For example, you must not work, you must have a satisfactory academic result, attend contact hours and maintain health insurance.

Discretionary Conditions - These conditions may be attached to a student visa depending on the circumstances. For example, if you are granted permission to work - then the condition will state, 'you must not work more than 20 hours a week during your course session'.

STUDENT VISA CLASSIFICATIONS  

  • English Language Intensive course for Overseas Students. (ELICOS)

  • Primary and Secondary School course.

  • Vocational Education and Training (VET).

  • Primary and Secondary School course.

  • Higher Education.

  • Postgraduate Research.

  • Non-Award course.

  • Aus AID and Defence.

STUDENT GUARDIAN VISA  

  • Student Guardian means a relative of the Applicant.

  • Student Guardian must be over 21 years of age and of good character.

  • Student Guardian must meet health and financial requirements.

  • Student Guardian accompanies a student under 18 years of age.

  • Guardian must live with the student.

  • Guardian cannot work.
